Azimio Coalition Faces Rift as NARC-Kenya Announces Departure

"current political circumstances" as one of the primary reasons for NARC-Kenya's impending departure from the opposition coalition.

The rift within the opposition Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition deepened when the Martha Karua-led NARC-Kenya party formally declared its intention to withdraw from the alliance on Thursday. Asha Bashir, the party’s Acting Secretary General, conveyed this decision to Junet Mohamed, Secretary General of the Azimio Secretariat, in a letter dated July 25, 2024.

In the letter, Ms. Bashir cited “current political circumstances” as one of the primary reasons for NARC-Kenya’s impending departure from the opposition coalition.

“Kindly take note that our stay in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition is not tenable due to the prevailing political developments,” said the NARC-Kenya SG.

“As NARC Kenya by way of this letter, we are giving notice to exit the Coalition as stipulated in the exit clause (s) in the Coalition Agreement. This notice is effective from the date of this letter.”
