The case involving Nakuru pastor Elias Mutugi Njeru and his estranged wife, Florence Wanjiku, has taken a dramatic turn after CCTV footage was released.
The video captured an altercation between the two outside an apartment building has sparked intense debate among Kenyans online.
Pastor Njeru is accused of violently attacking Wanjiku on the night of November 21, 2024, with the alleged assault leaving Wanjiku with several stab wounds and the loss of multiple fingers.
Wanjiku, speaking from her hospital bed, described the attack as unprovoked, claiming it stemmed from a previous domestic dispute. However, Njeru’s legal team has pledged full cooperation with authorities as investigations continue.
The footage has generated mixed reactions, with some Kenyans questioning the circumstances leading up to the altercation, while others point out potential gaps in the story.
The debate has divided online audiences, with opinions ranging from demands for justice to outright defence of the accused.
Solomon Kiplagat remarked, “He went after her with a machete from his car. Watch carefully frame by frame.”
Linus The CX Guru raised doubts, stating, “A lot is missing from that CCTV. What happened between 11:35 pm and 11:36 pm at Florence’s car? Why did Elias open his car boot, and what did he throw inside?”
KwaMog asserted, “He came back to his car with blood-stained clothes! Where did that come from if he is so clean?”
Some individuals criticized Florence’s actions in the footage:
Edu argued, “CCTV has saved this man. Let’s ignore the fact she is hugging the watchman romantically. She clearly initiated the dangerous attack.”
Oriku David wrote, “Now we can see the other side. Listening to her only in the hospital bed was not enough. Imagine your wife hugging and showing intimacy to the watchman.”
Meanwhile, other commentators were doubtful about both perspectives:
Joe stated, “There is nothing like personal defence when outrightly: 1) You’re not in danger, and 2) You stabbed the lady more than 10 times. It could have been easier for the man to drive off.”
Gran Cabral reflected, “Women are expert psychological manipulators. Men are animalistic and will react aggressively when they discover they are being manipulated.”
Background Information
Elias turned himself in at the Menengai Police Station and was taken into custody. Njeru turned himself in on Monday morning with his attorney by his side following claims that he had severely injured his estranged partner, Florence Wanjiku Gichohi, by stabbing her eighteen times.
According to reports, Njeru had been evading capture since the incident on Thursday. The alleged attack started when Njeru asked Wanjiku to meet with him to discuss business issues on a company they used to run together.
Wanjiku said the conversation turned violent when the two met at a hotel in Nakuru. According to her, Njeru followed her home and then attacked her with a knife, stabbing her numerous times in the hands, back, head, and other areas of her body.
