The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has informed the public that an allegation they stopped former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from attending a Sunday Church service was false.
In a statement on Tuesday, the investigative state body cited questionable information to make a serious claim and dismissed the claim as unsubstantiated.
The DCI emphasized its commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting personal freedoms and religious practices and also emphasized the autonomy of religious organizations.
They attributed misinformation to a local media outlet –Daily Nation and called for fairness and truthfulness in reporting, especially when covering high-profile individuals and national institutions.
This latest development comes after ex-DP Gachagua addressed the congregation in his native Kikuyu language during a Sunday service at the Priesthood Fellowship Church in Kahawa West.
Gachagua who was impeached in October noted he is consulting with various stakeholders and would provide direction in the coming days and asked supporters to register as voters.
The former second in command was ousted after serving for 766 days. His removal required two-thirds of the 67 senators to uphold five charges including inciting ethnic divisions and violating his oath of office.
He was later replaced by Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki. The 52-year-old politician is a strong ally of the president, having played a crucial role in Ruto’s legal defense during his trial for crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC), which was ultimately dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
Kindiki, known for his legal expertise and political acumen, has been an influential figure in Ruto’s administration. Kindiki was sworn in on November 1st.
