At just 32 years old, Eric Muriithi Muuga has made history as the youngest cabinet secretary in President William Ruto’s administration.
Muuga who hails from Athi in Igembe South, brought eight years of experience in engineering, specializing in the management of water projects, hydraulic modelling, and water treatment plants. Before he was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, he served as a project engineer at Kilifi Mariakani Water and Sewerage Company Limited (KIMAWASCO), where he played a crucial role in designing and reviewing essential water sanitation works.
A registered engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), Muuga boasts impressive credentials. He holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in Water Resources, from the University of Nairobi, where he graduated at the top of his undergraduate class. An alumnus of Lenana School and a primary school graduate from Maua in Meru County, Muuga also briefly taught at Kirindine Secondary School before dedicating himself fully to engineering. His journey exemplifies dedication and a strong commitment to serving his community on a broader scale.
