Mumias East MP Peter Salasya made USD 127.87(Ksh16,500.34) off his YouTube channel dubbed Salasya TV.
The channel which became an unexpected sensation boasts 15,119 subscribers and accumulated 362,300 views in just the last 28 days. Taking to social media, the first-time MP shared his excitement with his followers saying;
“I just found out that my channel made Ksh 5,647 and over 170,000 views, and we only have 8,659 subscribers! My Salasya TV YouTube channel is now making dollars! So I can actually make money out of comedy? Subscribe to my channel so we can enjoy this YouTube money together!” he urged, his infectious energy radiating through the screen.
The journey to this moment had begun months earlier. In March 2024, Salasya announced his plans to launch a YouTube channel, excited about the possibilities it presented. He sought a professional social media manager, offering a starting salary of Ksh 20,000 for the role.
“I’m looking for someone who can open a YouTube channel and post for me. Yangu itakuwa kutoa Kiki, yeye ni kupost,” he explained, blending English and Swahili with ease. His vision was clear: he would create the content, while the manager would handle the technical side of things.
MP Salasya, a part-time digital content creator, gained attention for his unconventional approach to politics, blending humour and relatability. His videos captivated audiences with their wit and commentary on societal issues. As his subscriber count grew, so did the excitement about his channel’s potential.
