Police in Kitale are searching for a female suspect who allegedly stabbed a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student to death just days before his graduation.
The victim, 25-year-old Benedict Kiptoo, was a final-year student at the Kitale campus of KMTC. He was fatally wounded on the left side of his neck during an argument at Kibomet, a location on the outskirts of Kitale.
The suspect, believed to be his girlfriend, has been identified as Mercy Masika, also known as Nancy Faiza.
Dr. Evans Letting, who tried to save Benedict, confirmed that the KMTC student died from excessive blood loss. “We tried all we could to stabilize him, but his condition deteriorated rapidly,” Dr. Letting explained.
The tragic incident has left Benedict’s family heartbroken. His mother, Gladys Kipkorir, is calling for swift action from authorities. “We need justice for my son. The authorities must act swiftly,” she said. Benedict’s uncle, Japheth Kipkorir, echoed the need for accountability in the case.
Trans Nzoia Deputy Police Commander Selasio Murethi confirmed the incident and assured that investigations are ongoing. “We are actively searching for the suspect, and we are confident of bringing her to justice,” Murethi said.
The county’s Health Executive, Sam Ojwang, condemned the incident and called for a stronger societal stance against gender-based violence. Psychologist Vincent Agolla also advised couples on conflict resolution to prevent such tragedies.
This incident highlights the growing urgency of global campaigns against gender-based violence.
