Emily Nzasu, one of the attendees at a parental blessing event where 12 people tragically lost their lives, has spoken out. She was part of the Vision Group chama.
On their way back home, a devastating head-on collision occurred between a 10-seater van and a pickup truck at Nithi Bridge in Tharaka Nithi County on Saturday night. According to Tharaka Nithi Police Commander Zacheaus Ng’eno, the crash happened when the van, en route to Nairobi, collided with a Meru-bound pickup.
Ng’eno reported that the deceased included 10 adults and two children, all from the same van. These 12 individuals were among 20 who had attended a friend’s parental blessing event in Meru.
In an interview with Citizen TV, Emily recounted the events leading up to the accident: “Our matatu was the first to veer off somehow, but the driver managed to control it. However, the matatu behind us, which had 10 people and two children, tried to overtake us, lost control, and crossed the oncoming lane towards Meru, where it collided with a pickup.”
Among those who perished in the tragic accident were Ann Njeri and her 1-year-old daughter.
