Pastor and content creator Isaiah, known as ‘Baba Jimmy,’ and his wife, ‘Mama Jimmy,’ have won many hearts with their touching and inspirational family content. Married at just 18, they’ve shared their story of love, faith, and resilience, offering an intimate look into their spiritual and steadfast relationship.
Their journey began with what they termed a simple yet meaningful wedding. Mama Jimmy describes their ceremony as rooted in faith rather than extravagance.
She recalls, “Alikuja kwetu akafika na wazazi wake.. Walileta mahari, ngombe na bahasha mzuri… Ndoa yetu haikuwa harusi kubwa, ilikuwa ya kikristo kwa maombi” — translating to how Isaiah and his parents arrived with a dowry, including cows and money, making their marriage a Christian ceremony centered on prayer.
Isaiah added that their wedding was held during an all-night prayer session, known as ‘kesha’ in Kenya. The event included prayers and a small cake from Isaiah’s mother. However, Isaiah fell ill during the ceremony and had to leave the service early.
“We got married at a kesha, had prayers, and enjoyed cake. But that night, I felt sick – I don’t know if it was illness or just nervousness,” he said. “I left the kesha to rest at home, leaving Mama Jimmy behind.”
Mama Jimmy recounted her confusion upon being left alone after the service. She was overwhelmed by fear and ended up sleeping on the couch wrapped in a Maasai shawl.
“I came back from the kesha and found myself in a dilemma, not knowing what to do or where to go,” she said. “So, I took my Maasai shawl and slept on the couch.”
Over time, Mama Jimmy learned to overcome her fears, realizing that fear can hinder one’s potential. Her involvement in media helped her gain confidence.
“Lakini siku hizi mimi nilijifunza kwamba uoga ni dhambi inazuia vitu mingi kwa maisha yako…. Kwanza mambo ya media ndio imefanya nikaacha kuwa muoga,” she noted.
Isaiah and Mama Jimmy faced several challenges, including opposition to their union from some people and jealous friends who tried to persuade Mama Jimmy to leave him.
“There were people who didn’t want us to get married,” Isaiah said. “And after we did, some close friends tried to persuade Mama Jimmy to leave me.”
They also experienced what they believed were spiritual attacks, with sicknesses among family members and unusual occurrences with their pets. Despite these adversities, their steadfast faith and commitment to prayer helped them overcome these challenges.
